EBSCOhost: The Silver Pen: Starting a Profitable Writing Business from a Lifetime of E...
Based on the idea that older adults have built up a wealth of knowledge during their lifetimes, this guide discusses how to build a profitable business from such knowledge through feature writing, ghost writing, public relations writing, and grant writing. The guide is aimed at the person who has a lifetime of experience in a business, trade, profession, hobby, or volunteer activity and wants an interesting, dignified, and low-risk method of converting knowledge into income. It shows how to set up a writing business in a field of interest--the perfect service business for the "post-employed" person. In simple language, the guide presents background information, such as how to set up an office and buy a computer; finding the right niche; getting customers; running a mini-writing business; and making money

60,000 Youth Books
YOUNG ADULT
Perhaps more than any other, YA is the one category where word count is very flexible.
For starters, 55,000 - 69,999 is a great range.
The word round the agent blogosphere is that these books tend to trending longer, saying that you can top in the 80Ks. However, this progression is still in motion and, personally, I'm not sure about this. I would say you're playing with fire the higher you go. When it gets into the 70s, you may be all right—but you have to have a reason for going that high. Again, higher word counts usually mean that the writer does not know how to edit themselves.
A good reason to have a longer YA novel that tops out at the high end of the scale is if it's science fiction or fantasy. Once again, these categories are expected to be a little longer because of the world-building.
Concerning the low end, below 55K could be all right but I wouldn't drop much below about 47K.

PhilaPlace - Washington Avenue Steamship Landing and Immigration station
Lazaretto, Immigration station in Philadelphia - 1799 - 1893
Opened after yellow fever epidemics occured in Philadelphia...
Between the 1870s and 1915, tens of thousands of primarily eastern and southern European immigrants disembarked at Washington Avenue piers from steamships departing from ports in Britain, France, Germany, Holland, and Italy. Those who stayed settled in the nearby waterfront neighborhoods like Southwark, Moyamensing, Northern Liberties, Port Richmond, and Kensington that offered available jobs and affordable housing. But thousands of other boarded Pennsylvania Railroad trains to Pittsburgh, Chicago, and beyond.
Started docking in 1873, but docked first at Lazaretto; Penn Railway Station receives the increasing number of immigrants. 1870 -1915 thousands take the railroad for Pittsburg, Chicago and further....

Writing for 10+, Riddle of.....

I took Josie to a writing class - after explaining how to develop characters, we were given two squares of paper and to write a noun on each one. I wrote bee keeper and janitor, Josie doctor and horse. I received back teenage girl and girl, Josie - pilot and astronaut. We had 20 minutes to start writing. Tousled hair flying in the wind, the teenage girl ran down the beach, long limbs flashing in the moonlight. Lights from the bungalows sprayed their glow on the hill above her. A dog dashed out of the dark, his fur rippling, as he took a stance in front of her. She stopped and drew a breath, and looking at the dog, debated her next move. "Rango, where are you?", a voice on the ridge called. The teenager returned with, "He is down here." A little girl of about 8 years of age appeared.....

Mom and Pop Stores - Making butter

How is everyone this fine Sunday morning? The sun is shining and I started my day with coffee and blueberry muffins filled with juicy berries. On to reading the Sunday paper, taking notes of activities and things I want to check out. Chloe is at her other Grandma's, spent the night and celebrating her BD and Josie is here.
Josie wants to learn to make butter and lo and behold, there was an article explaining it - you use a food processor or a jar and a marble!!
Jan. 20, 2011 Facebook...
This week has brought back memories of an earlier time and food, of course. My son and I went to the Conoco's / Stimson's in West Valley. I worked there for seven years and 11 in Layton. If you have never eaten potato logs, you won't know what all the fuss was about? It is a slice of a large potato dipped in - like Colonel Sanders, a special breading and deep fat-fried making it soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, lather on the sour cream and eat; C, J, and M did just that while growing up. Anyway, Jay forgot to buy some and went back later. He said they weren't as good as Mom's, even in a store?... Has to make me feel good. Ha Forward to I am on the Trax... One guy is talking about the DI in Ogden. Other guy says," I haven't been to Ogden in years. I remember eating potato logs with sour cream at Stimson's!"

"Writers' Life" website - Who do you hang with? Barstool test
http://www.awaionline.com/2006/05/the-golden-thread/ http://www.awaionline.com/2011/01/no-fear "No Fear in Thought" doesn't work because you're expecting the impossible. You're waiting to act until your fear goes away, but that won't happen. At least, not until you've confronted what's making you fearful — until you've taken action. "No Fear in Action" works because you're looking your fear in the face and proving to it that it can't control you Guillermo Rubio here – taking over The Writer’s Life for the week. It’s a popular saying in self-help circles. But it’s extremely true. That is, you are the sum total of the 5 people you spend the most time with. The logic here is simple. Want to be rich? Start hanging out with rich people. Want to lose weight? Start making friends with folks who value their health and fitness. Want to be a great copywriter? Hang out with other copywriters who are in the field working. The idea is that by hanging out with these people, some of their beliefs, habits and actions that make them who they are will seep into your life.
Remember the “barstool test” I mentioned earlier? It’s all about writing the way you’d talk to a friend … over a drink … at a bar. Forget the big words, the flowery language … the dramatic prose …
The barstool test is one of the most powerful secrets for writing great sales letters, because it ensures a strong, personal rapport with your reader. That’s why one of the first things you’ll learn when you take the AWAI program is to forget everything you’ve learned about traditional writing … and just write the way you’d talk to a friend about something you’re passionate about!
In one of my favorite books, "The Greatest Salesman in the World," Og Mandino writes:
"My dreams are worthless, my plans are dust, my goals are impossible. All are of no value unless they are followed by action. I will act now."
I don't know if you'll enjoy the same kind of glicken I've received, but I can promise you this.
Forget what you've done up until now. Take consistent action toward your goal of the writer's life. Press on toward that goal, and you will win.

If you're like me, your only regret will be that you didn't do it sooner
